Dad sentenced to 6 months for breaking gag order, objecting to daughter taking testosterone
A Canadian dad was sentenced to six months in jail after breaking a gag order by publicly objecting to his teen daughter being given cross-sex hormones as part of a medicalized gender transition.
Robert Hoogland of British Columbia, referred to as "CD" in court documents, was sentenced last week to six additional months in jail for violating court orders by identifying himself publicly objecting to his trans-identifying daughter being put on testosterone.
Sources close to the situation told The Christian Post that Hoogland could be released earlier than six months, taking into account the time he has already served. The sentence may wind up being between three and four months.
Later this week, Justice Michael Tammen, who sentenced Hoogland for criminal contempt because he violated publication and identification bans, is expected to publicly release his reasons for the imposition of the sentence.
According to sources, Hoogland's response to the judge's sentence is a "stoic acceptance of what he considers an overly strict sentence for a first offense."
The Canadian father will be unavailable for interviews until his time in prison is completed.
Hoogland has been in jail for a few weeks already after breaking a gag order that forbade him from publicly identifying himself as the dad in the contested case.
His plight comes amid the ongoing case in Texas of James Younger, a boy whose mother calls him “Luna” and wants him to transition into a girl against the objections of his father, Jeff Younger.
A hearing in the matter, which made national headlines in the fall of 2019, is scheduled for Friday morning.
According to the curators of the "Save James" Facebook page Monday, attorneys for Younger's ex-wife intend to argue that the father should be stripped of his parental rights, lose the ability to be notified when his ex-wife makes medical or psychological decisions for the boys, be imprisoned for six months, placed on probation for 10 years, have less custody of the boys and pay for all attorneys' fees.
Meanwhile, Texas state lawmakers have in recent days held hearings on legislation that prohibits medicalized gender transitioning of minors, similar to a bill that was recently passed in neighboring Arkansas. A handful of other states are considering similar bills.
Last month, the high court in British Columbia reportedly chastised Hoogland for breaching the order that required his identity to remain concealed from the public.
Hoogland's name appeared on a GoGetFunding crowdfunding page, which was a violation of the court order. He was warned that if his name was not removed from the page before his court date, then it would "not go well for him," a source told CP.
The court denied Hoogland's request to be released for two days so that he could use his home computer and take his name off of the crowdfunding page and other sites.
Canadian news outlets are reportedly barred from using Hoogland’s actual name in their coverage in an attempt to protect his daughter's identity, who is said to be 15 years old.
According to reports, Hoogland's daughter has suffered from several complex issues, all of which were attributed to gender confusion. His daughter was referred to an endocrinology unit at a nearby hospital at the recommendation of psychologist Wallace Wong, a known proponent of transgender affirmation.
Hoogland has consistently stressed that these experimental practices were being done without his consent and that the school where his daughter was taught gender identity lessons had hidden from him what was going on with his child. The father accused the school of enabling and facilitating his daughter's newfound transgender persona.
When his daughter was in grade 7, the school "socially transitioned" her and began referring to her by a different name without informing her parents, according to The Post Millennial.
Hoogland has also emphasized that his daughter's long-term health is in jeopardy because of how the hormones will impact her body.
“I had a perfectly healthy child a year ago, and that perfectly healthy child has been altered and destroyed for absolutely no good reason,” Hoogland said in an exclusive interview with The Federalist in February 2020.
“She can never go back to being a girl in the healthy body that she should have had. She’s going to forever have a lower voice. She’ll forever have to shave because of facial hair. She won’t be able to have children,” the father was quoted as saying.
“Sometimes I just want to scream so that other parents and people will… jump in, understand what’s going on.”
