'Somebody's Daughter' to Bring Pornography Battle to TV Sets

A documentary detailing the lives of three men and one couple active in Christian ministry who struggle with and overcome addiction to pornography will be making its television debut this weekend.

"Somebody's Daughter: A Journey to Freedom from Pornography" will premiere on the ION Television Network (formerly PAX TV) on Nov. 30 and air again on Dec. 7. The documentary is also slated to air on INSP, the Daystar Television Network, Faith TV and the "It's Time for Herman & Sharron" show this winter.

"Raw and realistic, gripping, tender, and convicting – Somebody's Daughter stands in the gap between Satan's promotion of sexual sin and God's redeeming hope for a free future," commented Marnie C. Ferree, who directs a Christian-based clinical workshop program in Nashville for sexual addiction recover.

"Somebody's Daughter … presents a compelling and heart-breaking case against the destructive effect of pornography in our culture," added Larry Malone, director of the United Methodist Men Ministries, in a published endorsement for "Somebody's Daughter."

According to recent surveys, nearly 60 percent of Christian men and 37 percent of pastors admit to struggling with pornography. No longer just a problem for men, 35 percent of women also admit to the addiction.

"Pornography is ravaging the power of Christianity before our very eyes," Malone commented.

The concept for "Somebody's Daughter" was born from a song of the same name written by Christian recording artist John Mandeville and Steve Siler, founder and director of the Music for the Soul ministry, after the former revealed to latter his struggle with pornography. After attending a meeting for sex addicts, the two men wrote the song to illustrate that women should be viewed as a creation of a Holy God, and as a starting point for Mandeville's healing.

More than three years after the release of the 18-track "Somebody's Daughter" CD, the documentary was released this past September as part of a special multi-media DVD-CD featuring nine therapeutic songs, four illustrative music videos, eight personal vignettes, and a study guide curriculum for individuals, counselors and churches.

"The Somebody's Daughter DVD is by far the best artistic presentation available to help people who have struggled with pornography or to help prevent that struggle in their children's lives," commented Dr. Doug Weiss of Heart2Heart Counseling Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

"The personal testimonies given...lower the barrier for men who are having a hard time overcoming the shame and guilt of pornography," added Dave Begueire, co-host and executive producer of "Man2Man Express," a daily radio show for men. "Hearing that other men have experienced the same feelings makes it easier for them to be honest about what's going on in their lives."

The DVD-CD's release came not long after the media storm that followed the shocking confession of high-profile Australian preacher Michael Guglielmucci, who admitted to faking his two-year battle with cancer to hide his 16-year obsession with pornography.

The DVD-CD set is available at somebodysdaughter.org and is being distributed to Christian retailers by Vision Video.

Ten percent of sales of the project are being donated to Christian counseling centers to aid in counseling people with pornography addictions.
