Actor Doug Hutchison, Spouse, 16, Defend Marriage

When 51-year-old Doug Hutchison married his 16-year-old bride, Courtney Stodden, in Las Vegas on May 20 this year, the majority of people disapproved of the actor’s union to the minor. However, according to a recent interview, the young wife shared that their relationship was purely innocent and that she chose to remain abstinent before marriage due to her Christian faith.

During a recent interview with E! Entertainment, Hutchison of “The Green Mile” and “Lost” said he not only admired her for remaining true to her faith but also confessed that he wish he too had remained a virgin before they met.

“Courtney was Christian and saving herself for marriage and I gotta say, if there is only one caveat to the ocean between our age difference, I wish that i was a virgin when we met.”

According to Hutchinson the interview was purely intended to dispel the rumors and speculations that their unconventional legal union was inappropriate and purely sexual from the start.

"Our communication was very innocent, open and there was nothing inappropriate about it whatsoever. There were no sexual innuendos, nothing until we began to fall for each other. We started using the ‘L’ word and confessing to one another that we were having feelings for each other," Hutchinson defended.

The couple met through the teenager’s mom when she was handling her career as actress and a singer. Through a mutual friend the two were able to connect for professional reasons when Hutchinson was holding acting workshops in L.A.

Their communication began in January of 2011 through e-mails but eventually turned into phone calls and texting.

During their courting Hutchison clarified that there had been “nothing illegal and immortal about it. It’s just that we found ourselves falling for each other.”

He also wanted to clarify that their relationship is genuine and that Stodden is not with him for fame as some believe, and that although her appearance may appear synthetic, her appearance was natural and that "God was her only plastic surgeon."

Because they received approval and blessing from her parents, necessary to obtain a marriage license, and because their relationship was all about love, they said they did not anticipate the negative reactions it stirred when it went viral.

Through the interview their hope was to “change [people’s] perspective and expand their minds about love.”

Hutchison concluded that his decision to marry her wasn’t a career killer as expected to be, on the contrary, he has received numerous phone calls from producers, directors, agents, and publishers.

“I don't think love is a career killer," he ended.
