3 things to know about the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting
Shooter dead, search for second suspect underway
Reports also indicate that the shooter, who has been identified as 19-year-old Santino William Legan, was killed at the scene and authorities are presently searching for another suspect who is considered a possible accomplice.
Legan was shot dead by police at the scene.
Police believe that Legan and the other suspect entered the event premises through a fence, which they cut with a tool from the northern end of the park to avoid security. The festival had no security video cameras on the grounds, according to Gilroy police chief Scot Smithee.
Legan's Instagram handle was disabled amid the release of his name and details about the shooting. Yet screenshots of his account have circulated online, specifically a post where he noted that he read the book Might Is Right — which is also called "The Survival of the Fittest" — by pseudonymous author Ragnar Redbeard. Might Is Right is an anarchist work considered by some as white nationalist material.
