Debate over gun control rises again
The shooting is reopening yet another round of the debate over gun control policies.
Proponents of gun control say the shooting is but another example for why greater restrictions on firearms are needed while defenders of gun rights point out that California already has some of the strictest policies on the books and yet did nothing to prevent the shooting.
Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president Joe Biden tweeted in response to the shooting that the violence is "not normal."
"How many more families will have to lose a loved one before we fix our broken gun laws? We must take action, starting with real reform," he said.
Andrew Pollack, the father of one of the Parkland high school shooting victims and a 2nd amendment advocate is arguing that the state laws proved ineffective.
"California’s gun control laws have once again failed its people," Pollack tweeted Monday.
"People need to always carry so you can protect your friends and loved ones."
"I can’t carry in California so I won’t live in California!"
