79-Year-Old Shot Dead: Blind Wife Calls 911 After Mysterious Death in New York
A 79-year-old has been shot dead in Brooklyn on Sunday morning, according to police reports.
A 911 emergency call was placed to police in the early hours of Sunday morning reporting that an unconscious man was inside an apartment.
When officers arrived at the scene at Gates Avenue in Bushwick at around 2:30 a.m. ET they found a 79 year old man named James Jackson with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Police have said that the 911 call was made by Jackson's wife, who explained that her husband was unresponsive. Jackson's wife is blind.
The 79 year old man was rushed to Woodhull Hospital but was later pronounced dead from his wounds.
Authorities have confirmed that there were no signs of any break ins or intruders in the apartment. Investigators are currently working on the assumption that Jackson was possibly the victim of a stray bullet, and that the death was a tragic accident.
According to an NBC report, residents in the area have been left shocked at the news of the death, and a number have commented that they knew of no enemies that the 79 year old man may have had.
"Why would anyone harm him? It would take him 20 minutes to walk down the block," said Jackson's neighbor, Vaughn Grandy, according to NBC News.
Police have also confirmed that no arrests have currently been made, but investigations are still ongoing and authorities are keeping an open mind about what took place and the circumstances surrounding the elderly man's death.
