15 lesser-known candidates running for president in 2024
8. John Anthony Castro
John Anthony Castro, a candidate for the Republican nomination for president, is making “healthcare for all” an instrumental part of his agenda. He asserts that “we need to model a National Health Commission after the Federal Reserve.”
“This Commission will serve as the ‘single private payer’ to collectively negotiate prices on behalf of Americans. By doing this, we can drive down health costs by as much as 60%,” he predicts. “This is effectively the same as a corporate merger and consolidation of the insurance companies; but only the price negotiating function. This plan will benefit all Americans nationwide by driving down the cost of healthcare.”
“This plan will benefit the economy because it consolidates and pools a critical function of insurance companies; less cost means more net profit and dividends for shareholders. This plan benefits everyone.”
In a video posted to YouTube, Castro defines himself as an “anti-Trump Republican” dating back to the moment the former president announced his candidacy in 2015 and as a libertarian on LGBT issues. As highlighted in the video, Castro has filed a lawsuit challenging Trump’s eligibility to appear on the ballot in the 2024 presidential election. He discussed how his status as a presidential candidate gives him the standing to do so and expressed a desire to have Trump kicked off the ballot in all the swing states.
