Aaliyah Fans Angry at '#AaliyahsAirplanePlaylist' Trending on Twitter

Aaliyah fans on Twitter are up in arms about the hash tag #AaliyahsAirplanePlaylist which was a trending topic on Thursday.

Thursday marks the 10-year anniversary of Aaliyah's death. The R&B songstress died on August 25, 2001 in a horrific plane crash while returning to the U.S. from the Bahamas after shooting the music video for her hit single "Rock the Boat."

The crash, caused by a combination of the plane being overweight with equipment and an inexperienced pilot, killed Aaliyah as well as the other eight people onboard the small, twin engine plane.

Many fans are expressing their distaste that other Twitter users are turning the hash tag #AaliyahsAirplanePlaylist into a game and listing song titles that refer to, or can be twisted to refer to planes, crashes, plane crashes or death.

@cloneradio, Rory Biller contributed the songs "Auto Pilot" by Queens of the Stone Age and "Crash and Burn" by Transplants to "Aaliyah's airplane playlist."

@KeyFiya, Charlie Rivers contributed "I'm Going Down" by Mary J. Blige to the list.

"That's inappropriate, insensitive, and beyond disrespectful," tweeted @DenimThongsLove, Sabrina Forbes.

Many fans have vowed to unfollow anyone participating in listing songs on "Aaliyah's airplane playlist."

"This comes to show you that people don't even have respect for the dead nowadays smh," tweeted @ITZKSTAR, Young Kaii.

Fans are not only upset at other Twitter users for participating in the topic but are upset that Twitter made the tag a trending topic in the first place.

"And Twitter has reached a new ethical low by making #AaliyahsAirplanePlaylist a trending topic," @LeftSentThis tweeted.

Some in the music industry are also urging for the hash tag to be removed.

"#AaliyahsAirplanePlaylist is just disrespectful. Twitter needs to take this Trending Topic down right now!! RT if you agree," tweeted, rapper Wiz Khalifa, @MrWizKhaIifa

Ironically, @Isack369, Isaac Valles contributed Wiz Khalifa's song "Won't Land" to the playlist.
