Amanda Bynes Schizophrenia Has Star Needing 'Long-Term Hospitalization'

After months in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, Amanda Bynes is finally getting the help she needs and is improving daily, but still may need to be in the hospital for the rest of the year.

A report by Radar Online said Bynes' doctors are recommending her mother take conservatorship of her daughter because she "needs long-term hospitalization."

"Despite some reports, Amanda is improving daily and responding well," Jonathan Jaxson, her publicist, told Entertainment Tonight in a statement. "There is still a long road ahead, and that doesn't mean being confined to a locked-down treatment center. Amanda is in the best hands presently, medically, and each day her condition is being monitored. There is not a set release date, but with the great track she is on presently, she will be out of a lockdown facility and continuing to recover elsewhere in the near future."

He went on to say Bynes was fully cooperative with doctors as her parents are working to take control of her life.

"[Doctor's have] been observing Amanda, and there has been some improvement ... However, her diagnosis is complex, and the appropriate drug cocktail to treat her hasn't been achieved yet," a source told Radar. "Therefore, her treatment team believes Amanda would benefit from prolonged treatment at UCLA, for at least the rest of the year. She has her good days and bad days, and the goal is obviously to get her therapeutic and stable before being released."

The young star was placed on involuntary psychiatric hold last month because she started a fire in someone's driveway. She was then taken to to UCLA Medical Center on Aug. 15 reports USA Today.

In an open letter to Bynes penned by Nick Cannon, he reached out to his former castmate with a message of hope.

"We all end up alone in that dark hole at some point in our lives and if you don't have a foundation of friends and family to help bring you up and out it makes that journey long and detrimental," Cannon continued. "So I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you're not alone. I'm here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that's what family does and that's what family is for."
