Amanda Knox Latest News: Kercher Family Set Up Fund to Appeal Knox Acquittal
The family of murdered Meredith Kercher is setting up a trust fund to help pay for an appeal against the acquittal of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito.
An open letter by Meredith’s sister, Stephanie Kercher, was published in the London Times and the Daily Mirror to mark the fourth anniversary of Kercher’s death, stating that the fund will go towards legal expenses and also help support others who are in a similar position.
"We will not recoup the legal costs, but we hope that a fund may help with legal expenses in the future, as the appeal proceeds,” wrote Kercher. “Most importantly, we hope that Meredith's fight may continue and that she can help others."

Stephanie Kercher paid tribute to her sister, recalling the night she found out about her sister’s death.
"I rang her mobile several times," she said. "I left a voice message explaining what had happened, telling her to be safe and to call me as soon as she could. I finished as always, 'I love you.' I even emailed her the news page so she knew what I was talking about… little did I know I was already too late."
According to Kercher, her family has not put a permanent memorial at Meredith Kercher’s grave because they did not feel the time was right.
"We look to future anniversaries with the hope that something good can come from the bad, and that one day the time will be right for a permanent memorial, where we can all go to remember my sister," she said.
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were initially convicted of Kercher’s murder in 2007 in Perugia, Italy. After four years, they won an appeal which saw them acquitted last month.
Since the ruling, Knox has returned to her native Seattle and is rumored to make millions in the future with books and interviews.
