Stephanie Kercher Relays Her Family's Pain And Continued Search for Murderer of Meredith Kercher
On the fourth anniversary of her death, Meredith Kercher’s sister, Stephanie, wrote a public letter detailing her eternal reverence to her murdered sister, and a continued search for justice.
Meredith Kercher was found dead of stab wounds, along with signs of sexual abuse, in her Perugia, Italy flat in 2007.
The court case concerning her murder garnered international attention when American foreign exchange student and roommate of Kercher, Amanda Knox, and Knox’s Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were accused of killing Kercher in a lascivious sex escapade gone awry.

Knox and Sollecito won their respective appeals of the 2007 murder, and they were released on Oct. 3.
The Kercher family remained perplexed by the verdict, which continued the mystery surrounding Meredith’s death. They argued that international attention towards Knox has taken away from the true victim in the case, their daughter and sister, claiming: “Meredith has been hugely forgotten.”
“We want to keep her memory alive,” contended Stephanie Kercher after Knox’s acquittal was announced on Oct. 3.
In her letter acknowledging the fourth anniversary of her sister’s death, whom she endearingly refers to as ‘Mez,’ Stephanie Kercher described the pain and utter disbelief she endured the day she heard a British foreign exchange student had been found dead in Perugia.
“We stayed up all night watching the news, waiting for any concrete information,” wrote Kercher. “The Halloween photo of Meredith was the first to appear and I spun round to Mum and said ‘That’s not Mez! That’s not Mez, Mum!”
Kercher then went on the describe identifying her sister’s body in Perugia, which was covered with a white sheet to disclose the stab wounds in her neck.
“She seemed peaceful, yet she bore a look of determination, of courage marred by defeat,” Kercher added.
Kercher contended that from the beginning, she and her family have always focused on their loved one as being the center of the case.
“This is testament to a truly special sister, daughter and friend. She really did touch so many lives with her selfless compassion and loyalty, and continues to do so now.”
She said after endless days spent in court, that there continues to be no motive concerning her sister’s death.
“We still hope justice will prevail and, in the darkest times, the support given to Meredith and us as a family reminds us of why we are still here.”
The Kercher family has set up a Trust Fund in Meredith’s name that will continue seeking answers in the exchange student’s mysterious death, and helps others in similar situations.
“She held such an incredible presence that the void she has left us with is noticeable every day,” Kercher added.
