Amanda Knox Latest: Raffaele Sollecito Says They Need Each Other
Amanda Knox’s ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito has declared that they need each other.
Knox and Sollecito were sensationally acquitted earlier this month of murdering British student Meredith Kercher. While Knox flew back to Seattle immediately after the verdict was announced, Sollecito has been keeping a low profile following his lawyer’s advice.
In an interview published yesterday in Oggi, an Italian magazine, Sollecito has said he couldn’t wait to see Knox again and discuss the “hellish whirl” that had “nearly ruined our lives”.
He said: “I’ll go to visit Amanda in Seattle; she invited me. I accepted joyfully. And who's to say it won't be before Christmas. I want to see her, to talk to her, to look in her eyes.”
He went on to say: “We telephone and write to each other every day, we need each other both to try to understand what happened and to look ahead, towards a future that seemed broken forever but which we can now rebuild,” according to Oggi.
Sollecito first met Knox at a classical music concert in Perugia, Umbria, in Oct. 2007.
However, their lives were put on hold when Knox’s housemate Kercher was found dead, semi-naked with her throat cut.
Knox and Sollecito were initially found guilty of murder and sexual assault, and sentenced to 26 and 25 years respectively. However, they appealed their convictions, questioning the lack of DNA evidence and were acquitted this month.
“We have so many things to say to each other after spending four years in a hellish whirl which crushed us and caused us indescribable suffering and nearly ruined our lives,” Sollecito said.
