Amanda Knox Multi-Million Interview Race: ABC, CBS and NBC Battle it Out
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that “60 Minutes” and other programs are trying hard to get Amanda Knox for her first TV interview since her release from Italian prison.
Knox, however, is facing a decision on whether she wants to do any television interviews at all. It is likely she will not make any money from such appearances, and would probably have to focus on securing a literary deal. If she does decide to go on TV first, she will lose heavily in any potential book profits.
After the Casey Anthony case, where it was reported that TV networks paid the mother for her interview appearances, broadcast networks faced heavy criticism and are now reluctant to offer the same monetary incentive to Knox.
Although a lot of controversy still surrounds both acquittals, public perception is likely to be more favorable towards Knox. TV networks are likely to continue pursuing the Seattle native, with CBS facing stiff competition to get her to say “yes.”
Other media options for Knox include an interview with Katie Couric on ABC’s “20/20” show. One advantage that Couric has is that she has kept in close contact with Knox’s mother, which may be enough to secure the potentially rating-making interview.
Matt Laurer from NBC is another high-profile host interested in asking Knox the questions the people want to hear. Of course, Knox has the option of choosing to make numerous interviews, which will allow her to tell different angles of her story and share more experiences.
What the networks are really fighting for is to be the ones to get her first, which is likely to result in the most viewership. However, if Knox decides to take the safest money option and wait until she has a book out first, the interviewers will have to wait a lot longer.
