Amanda Peet Returns to TV With 'Bent'

Actress Amanda Peet has joined the primetime television series "Bent" portraying Alex Meyers in the comedy.

On "Bent," Peet plays a single, divorced mother and a high-strung lawyer who is challenged by her active, handsome carpenter Pete Riggins, portrayed by David Walton.

Speaking about returning to television, Peet admitted she questioned if she was "over-the-hill" as an actress.

"[The TV landscape] seems like it's contracting, fewer and fewer jobs," said the 40-year-old actress, according to CNN. "It's hard to discern what's what, since I'm now a 40-year-old woman. Am I over the hill at the same time there's a recession?"

Peet continued to explain that big names in Hollywood probably do not suffer a shortage of work.

"There aren't many roles that are interesting if you're a 40-year-old woman, unless you're Julia Roberts or Cate Blanchett," said the "Jack and Jill" star.

When asked about her uptight character on "Bent," Peet shared her views on humor and revealed elements of her own personality.

"In a romantic comedy it's usually a good idea to have people who can't stand the fact that they are attracted to each other," she explained.

Admitting that she was "probably" uptight, Peet said, "I try to be really hippie about things. I'm uptight in all the ways that are really important, but the things my husband and family can benefit from my uptightness, I'm completely lacking."

Peet has been married to screenwriter David Benioff since 2006. He co-created the HBO series "Game of Thrones," and he and Peet share two young daughters together.

The New York City native last appeared on NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." After just one season the show was canceled, but Peet has remained busy with roles mostly in movies such as "2012" and "Gulliver's Travels."

The half-hour romantic comedy will also see actors Jeffrey Tambor from "Arrested Development," JB Smoove of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and Jesse Plemons, who appeared on "Friday Night Lights."

"Bent" airs Wednesdays on NBC at 9 p.m. EST.
