U.S. Drops 'Mother of All Bombs' on ISIS in Afghanistan; Largest-Ever Non-Nuclear Bomb
The United States dropped a massive GBU-43 bomb, also known as the "mother of all bombs," in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday against a series of caves used by Islamic State militants, the military said.
It was the first time this type of bomb had been used in combat and was dropped from a MC-130 aircraft, Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump said.
In the aftermath of the news, the White House was preparing to give a press briefing to give more details. However, it was reported that the giant bomb created a huge mushroom cloud, and had a blast radius of 1 mile. The region the bomb was dropped on is a vastly rural, mountainous area, according to reports.
