'Anchorman 2' Confirmed by Will Ferrell
Will Ferrell has confirmed that there will be a sequel for his hit movie "Anchorman," delighting fans of the original.
The star appeared on the "Conan O'Brien" show last night in the Ron Burgundy character from "Anchorman" to make the announcement. Playing a flute and exciting the audience, Ferrell stated, "I like to keep my chops up."
"Can I tell you, Conan, that you and Andy are wonderful anchors? I have one small criticism… Conan, you look awful! Fire your hair lady and just go under the knife," Ferrell as Burgundy said. "That comes from the heart."
"I actually have an announcement. I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas. Paramount Pictures and I have come to terms on a sequel to 'Anchorman.' There will be a sequel," he confirmed before again playing the flute and leaving the stage.
"Best. News. Story. Ever," SinisterCadre11 commented on the New York Daily News website.
Deadline reported that Ferrell will again play title character Ron Burgundy and will be joined with original cast-mates Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner. The 2004 hit took in nearly $30 million in its opening weekend and has since gone on to gross over $90 million.
In 2008 fans were told that Ferrell had been thinking about doing a sequel, but he stated that it would take some time to get things moving. The confirmation of a sequel comes as a surprise to many who remembered a 2010 announcement that plans were "unlikely" and getting everyone back together was impossible. Now, though, fans can again await the return of their favorite local anchorman.
"Anchorman 2? God keeps blessing me in the most special ways!" Brian Puspos tweeted.
"Anchorman 2 is coming soon??!!! Yessss!!" added Angie Martinez.
"Thank you for making my day, Ron Burgandy," tweeted Brian Tong.
