Android 4.3, JellyBean Update Release Date Set for Dec. for Galaxy S3
The Android 4.3, JellyBean update release date for the Galaxy S3 will be before the end of Dec.
Lee Don-joo, Samsung's president of strategic marketing for the mobile division told the Korea Times that the Galaxy S4 will be connected to the Gear by next month and will be followed by the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 shortly after. And since the Gear is only compatible with devices running Android 4.3, they will need to get the update in order to work with each other.
"All functions of the Gear will be connected to the Galaxy S4 smartphone by next month and the connection will be expanded to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 by the end of December," he said to the publication.
The reason why the Galaxy Gear is only compatible with Android 4.3 is due to the fact that it uses Bluetooth 4.0 to hook up to smartphones and tablets. Bluetooth 4.0 is a new feature on Google's latest JellyBean update, which will make those older devices compatible with the smartwatch.
Samsung basically confirmed many of the recent rumors regarding the roll out of Android 4.3 to the Galaxy S4, S3 and Note 2.
Current Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 2 users will need the update in order to use it with the devices so it will also help Samsung to push the watch even further in terms of sales.
Android 4.3 was unveiled along with the second-generation Nexus 7 tablet back in the summer of this year.
The update brings some new features to the Android platform and will be the final iteration of JellyBean before Android 4.4,KitKat debuts sometime in the very near future.
