Angela Simmons Talks Being Judged For Christian Faith

Angela Simmons, the 25-year-old daughter of the famed Run DMC rapper-turned-reverend known as Rev. Run, recently opened up about the judgement she receives for being a Christian.

Simmons, the new co-host of BET music video countdown show 106 & Park, spoke about people believing she is not a fun person because of her Christianity.

"Well I think with religion, people are just judgmental off the bat," Simmons said in Rolling Out magazine. "They feel like if you have a relationship with God and Jesus Christ, then you're not allowed to have any fun."

Simmons said some people may judge her for things that she wears as a Christian.

"I think that's just wrong when people judge others … especially when you're not supposed to judge anyway. But I deal with it all the time," Simmons told Rolling Out. "People will come up to me and say 'Oh you shouldn't be wearing that skirt.'"

The 106 & Park host spoke about her response to those people who judge her.

"And I just say 'why not?' I'm not doing it distastefully, and I'm not being disrespectful," Simmons told Rolling Out. "I have my relationship with God, so therefore I don't feel like anyone should judge me. But it's life, and people are going to judge."

Simmons spoke about how controversial religion can be.

"And there's so much controversy surrounding religion, so I just eat it," she told Rolling Out. "At this point, it is what it is, but I know who I am … and God knows my heart, so I don't take it any further."

While the minister's daughter was only recently named the official co-host of 106 & Park, she took to her Twitter account to let the world know that her faith was in tact.

"Thank you God," Simmons tweeted on the heels of the announcement of her new job.
