'Assassin's Creed' Movie First Trailer Released, How Did it Fare on Social Media?
Fans of the game series, "Assassin's Creed" have been anticipating the release of the game's feature film adaptation which has been in the works since May 2015. The film finished production in January 2016 and after teasing the public with photos from the movie, it finally premiered its first trailer last May 11. Slated for a holiday 2016 release in theaters, the movie will star award-winning actors Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
Based on the movie's Twitter account, fans of the game and the movie shared their satisfaction with the trailer, which garnered around 17,000 likes. A little over 17,000 Twitter users also re-tweeted the post, which not only included the movie trailer, but also had the caption: "We work in the dark to serve the light."
On the movie's official Facebook page, statistics show that the trailer has been viewed over 8.5 million times. Over 157,000 Facebook users liked the video, while it has been shared 286,423 times, also according to the Facebook page statistics.
In both social media platforms, most of the comments from those who watched the trailer in full were positive, with some citing that there may be hope for this feature film adaptation. According to a reviewer on Mashable, the trailer looked "fantastic." Another review on Doddle cited that it was able to give viewers, who were not familiar with the game, an idea of what the story is behind the movie and how much action to expect from it.
On a negative note, the music used for the trailer was heavily criticized on both social platforms as well. The trailer featured a track by Kanye West, titled "I Am A God," perhaps as homage to the "immortal" characteristics of the assassins.
Most of the comments regarding the music said that the trailer was "fantastic" except for the soundtrack. Some even hoped that the movie's soundtrack would turn out to be better than that of the trailer while one commenter even went as far as suggesting that whoever chose the Kanye song "should be executed."
