Barnes & Noble Nook Release Date: Bookstore Announces Media Event for Nook Unveiling
Book retailer Barnes & Noble has announced it will host a media event on Nov. 7, and commentators project the latest Nook e-reader will be unveiled at the event.
The event invite is headed with the signature Nook "N" and says, "Please join us for a special announcement."
The event will take place at Barnes & Noble Union Square in New York City and begins at 10 a.m. after a 9:30 a.m. breakfast and check-in.
Experts suggest that Barnes & Noble may have developed an updated Nook e-reader or a new tablet in order to maintain competition with Amazon, which recently released its Kindle Fire tablet in September, as well as updates of its other Kindle e-readers.
The Nook is currently the second best -selling e-reader after Amazon's Kindle, according to AppleInsider.
Since its original 2009 release, the Nook has received a number of updates, including a software update in April and the release of the Nook Simple Touch in June.
Barnes & Noble projects that its Nook and e-book sales will double by the end of the fiscal year, which ends in March 2012, to $1.8 billion.
In order to keep in step with Amazon, experts suggest that Barnes & Noble will have to keep its e-reader prices low.
The Amazon Kindle Fire retails for $199 while the original Kindle e-reader sells for $79 and the Kindle Touch sells for $99.
Currently, the Nook Simple Touch retails for $139 and the Nook Color sells for $249.
Barnes & Noble has not revealed any other information about its event or its product plans.
