Bat for Boston Victims: Red Sox's Jonny Gomes Honors 3 Killed in Bombings and Slain Cop
A bat for Boston victims of the terrorist bombing spread quickly on the internet, with many approving of Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes' tribute. The Boston baseball player had the name of the three victims that died from the blast and the slain MIT officer engraved on his bat for Sunday's game.
The bat for Boston victims was used against the Kansas City Royals and engraved with the names of the deceased, who were killed by brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's criminal activities. "Boston Strong," reads the bat, along with "Martin Richard, Lu Lingzi, Krystle Campbell, Sean Collier" in a bold finish.
Gomes' teammate Will Middlebrooks took a picture of the bat and tweeted it, causing the small gesture to spread like wildfire across the internet. As of Monday, 3,281 people reposted the image, with another 1,726 marking it as their favorite on the microblogging site.

"The #RedSox and their players flat out get it," Dan Corrado responded.
"Simple, moving tribute," Jim Naughton agreed.
"This is beyond words #Class," tweeted Jen Royale.
The bat wasn't the only tribute the team did for the victims. Special home jerseys were made and worn for Saturday's game by the Red Sox with the word "Boston" on the front.
"This is our f------ city. And nobody is going to dictate our freedom. Stay strong," Red Sox star David Ortiz told the crowd.
The New York Yankees also showed their support for Boston last week after the devastating bombings that left 3 dead and 170 injured. Fans of the Red Sox have been hearing Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" in the eighth inning at Fenway Park since 2002, and Tuesday, Yankees decided to temporarily adopt the song too.
Yankees players and fans sang "Sweet Caroline" in the stands in the third inning of the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The stadium also made a banner with both the Yankees and Red Sox logos and the slogan "United we stand."
