BBM for Android Release Date Set for September 19
The BBM for Android release date is set for Sept. 19.
The messaging app was leaked earlier this week, however; that version did not seem to work properly, according to a report from Android Authority. It has leaked quite a few times in the past, but this new version is said to be the real deal.
Android Community claims that this final leaked version only works on some whitelisted accounts.
Samsung Nigeria tweeted that BBM for Android will be available for devices this Friday. It also suggested that Samsung will have a three-month exclusive access to the app.
"YES WE DID!!!! Available from Friday RT @supersanusi: If Samsung really did get the 3 month exclusive like I heard, that would be something," tweeted the company.
However, that tweet seemed to be incorrect as Blackberry clarified the comment stating that no one will have exclusive rights to BBM.
The BBM for Android page accidentally went live last month on BlackBerry's website.
It read "BBM for Android and iPhone is here." However, it was taken down shortly after it was put up. The fact this it even appeared shows the release for the wildly popular messaging software is close. BBM was scheduled to hit Android and Apple products soon, so we could see this page back up in the next few days.
The company first announced in the beginning of Aug. that the new app will be available in its Google Play store and will become part of the Samsung Messaging Hub sometime in the very near future.
"At Samsung we are all about collaboration, innovation and driving consumer experience based on choice, value and customization to suit every lifestyle. As such, bringing a top tier messaging service such as BBM is another way that we are expanding the catalogue of our messaging services and offering customers an amazing way to stay instantly connected with colleagues, friends and family," said George Ferreira, VP and COO of Samsung Electronics Africa.
