Beyonce Hits Back at Lip-Synching Backlash, Belts Out National Anthem Live (VIDEO)
Beyonce Knowles made an appearance during a Super Bowl press conference Thursday, making it her first time facing the media since her lip-synching debacle.
On Jan. 21 Beyonce belted out a flawless rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner"during President Barack Obama's Inauguration, but the fact that she did not sing live later overshadowed her performance. The singer finally answered burning questions surrounding the lip-synching incident shortly after belting a live performance of the national anthem.
"I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra [therefore] I did not feel comfortable taking a risk," Beyonce told reporters.
While referring to herself as a "perfectionist," the 31-year-old singer said that Obama's Inauguration day "was not about me." She then went on to explain that she did not sing live simply ro take extra precaution as she did not want potential mistakes to divert attention from the event.
Beyonce, who appeared to be in good spirits throughout the press conference held at the Morial Convention Center, was reportedly stunned by the backlash she received after the Inauguration, with a source previously telling Us magazine that the singer had good reason for not singing live.
"She didn't think there was anything wrong with it. Pavarotti has done it! It was freezing out, and if she messed up just one note, that would have been the story," a source told Us magazine.
"Everybody uses these tracks, and the music director advised it. Any big outdoor live performance is almost always with some kind of track," the source continued. "She did sing, but used a track."
On Sunday, Feb. 3 Beyonce will again take the stage, although this time she will appear before an estimated 110 million viewers for the 2013 Super Bowl. The annual national championship is being held at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
The singer confirmed that she will "absolutely" sing live during the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers game halftime show. She also hinted at making a possible tour announcement after her show.
