Beyonce Shares True Calling From God as 'Vessel' of 'Healing Light' in Heart-Felt Poem
Beyonce spoke about God and prayer in a newly released poem, in which she shares her true calling.
The iconic singer, 32, covers the September issue of CR Fashion Book, in which her heart-felt poem is published alongside a series of artistic photos.
Beyonce, who is openly Christian, recalled a childhood experience with prayer and also shared her true calling as a "vessel" of "healing light" in this world. The poem, entitled "Bey The Light," was "remixed" by award-winning poet and novelist Forrest Gander.
"I saw a TV preacher once when I was scared, at four or five, about bad dreams, who promised he'd say a prayer - if I put my hand to the TV. That's the first time I remember prayer, an electric current humming through me," she shares.
Beyonce, named Time magazine's "most influential" person back in April, has had dozens of number 1 hit songs and has sold millions of albums around the world.
The Grammy award-winning artist had a very successful year in 2013 in terms of music and lucrative endorsement deals. Earlier this year, her Mrs. Carter World tour, which fulfilled 132 shows, marked the most successful tour of her music career and made her the highest-paid black musician of all time.
In her poem, she alludes to being on a mission from God that is spiritual and far greater than singing. She acknowledges that her music has made a significant impact on the world and credits God for her ability to touch so many people.
"You call me a singer, but I'm called to transform, to suck up the grief, anxiety and loss of those who hear me into my song's form. I'm a vessel for all that isn't right, for break-ups and lies and double-cross. I sing into that vessel a healing light," she writes. "To let go of pain that people can't bear. I don't do that myself, I call in the light. I summon God to take me there."
The "End Of Time" singer also gushes about her 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy and shares her hopes for more love and kindness in the world.
"It's my daughter, she's my biggest muse. There's someone, we all find out soon, more important than ourselves to lose," she shares before ending with "But for my daughter I dream a day where no one roots for others to fail, when we all mean what we say."
The CR Fashion Book shoot was photographed by Pierre Debusschere and directed by fashion designer, Riccardo Tisci.
