Beyonce Thanks God Lights Didn't Go Out During Halftime Performance
Beyonce Knowles' Super Bowl halftime show drew the attention of countless people who tuned into the festivities, but the 31-year-old Grammy Award winning singer made sure to thank God that she managed to avoid a power outage during her own high-power performance.
While a power outage caused half of the lights in the Superdome New Orleans, La. stadium to go out for over 30 minutes, Knowles elaborate stage lighting and performance did not seem to suffer one bit. After her performance, the singer spoke to OMG! Insider co-anchor Kevin Frazier about a higher power helping her through the performance.
"It's a live television show, it's the biggest show in America, and there's so many things that could happen and God was on my side, so I'm very, very happy that it went well and the power went out after," Knowles said. "It feels good to know the hard work paid off."
Since Knowles' performance included fireworks and intricate lighting, some questioned if she was the cause of the power outage that took place during the third quarter of the Super Bowl game. However, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell came to Knowles' defense Monday.
"There's no indication at all that this was caused by the halftime show. Absolutely not. I know that's been out there that this halftime show had something to do with it," Goodell said in a statement about Knowles' 13-minute set. "That is not the case."
Knowles' husband, rapper Jay-Z, joked about the lights going out in the Superdome by taking to his Twitter.
"Lights out," the rapper and businessman exclaimed on the social networking website. "Any questions??"
A number of other celebrities took to Twitter to show their support for the singer after her performance.
"Just realized I was holding my breath," media proprietor Oprah Winfrey tweeted after the performance. "Did she rise to this moment or what??"
Michelle Obama, the first lady of the United States, also tweeted her excitement after watching Knowles' highly-publicized Super Bowl performance.
"Watching the #SuperBowl with family & friends. @Beyonce was phenomenal! I am so proud of her! -mo," the first lady tweeted.
