Bill Cosby Working on New Family Sitcom for NBC: I Want to See 'Warmth, Love and Surprise' on TV, Says Comedian

Bill Cosby is in talks to star in a new family sitcom on NBC that has yet to be titled so far. The role would have the 76-year-old actor as the patriarch of a family that spans multiple generations, according to reports.

Bill Cosby's potential deal with NBC, which was confirmed by the network Wednesday, is for a half-hour show dealing with familiar family issues- something lacking on most of the major networks. The comedian would be paired with a team of writers to bring "warmth, love and surprise" to the show.

"I want to be able to deliver a wonderful show to [a] network," Cosby told TheWrap.com in November. "Because there is a viewership out there that wants to see comedy, and warmth, and love, and surprise, and cleverness, without going into the party attitude."

"They would like to see a married couple that acts like they love each other, warts and all, children who respect the parenting, and the comedy of people who make mistakes," he continued. "Warmth and forgiveness. So I hope to get that opportunity, and I will deliver the best of Cosby, and that will be a series, I assume, that we could get enough people week after week to tune in to, to come along with us."

Currently there isn't a series order or a pilot in production, an NBC spokesman told the Associated Press.

Cosby rose to stardom on NBC with "The Cosby Show," which launched in September of 1984 and ran for eight years. Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, his wife Clair and their children depicted and upper-middle class black American family, and is credited for blazing a path for many black comedy sitcoms today.

The show got great ratings for NBC and was followed by "Cosby" in 1996, which was less successful but ran for four seasons.

The comedian proved that he still has comedy in his blood with his most recent stand-up comedy special, "Far From Finished," which started in November and the tour continues now.
