Auto Dealers Join in the Shopping Revelry, Offer Major Deals on New Cars
With Black Friday 2011 predicted to be the biggest shopping day yet, it is only fitting that car dealerships would hop on the bargain bandwagon and offer deals on retail's biggest toys, from large trucks to mid-SUVs to subcompacts.
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is America’s official start to the holiday shopping season. It allows companies to jumpstart their holiday revenue, hit annual quotas, and clear out their remaining 2011 merchandise in preparation for a new season of arrivals.
Just as clothing and electronic stores clear out their older retail for newer, more improved models, car dealerships seek to collect the maximum amount of profit on their 2011 car models in preparation for a new series.
"People are in a good mood, they're home with their families...they come in on Friday morning and they're ready to buy some cars," Joe Orff, owner of Norristown, Pa., Sport Chrysler Jeep Dodge, told The Times Herald.
"They have the day off and have time to spend at the dealership, and they still have Saturday too. And it's a busy day for people getting their cars serviced too," he added.
According to Truecar.com data, shoppers can expect to cash in on the biggest discount of the entire year this Friday, saving an average of 9. 5 percent per vehicle.
In some cases shoppers can save up to 23 percent. A 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor, for example, could save shoppers an average of 23.3 percent, according to AOL Autos.
"The discounts from dealerships, as well as manufacturers' incentives, generate the highest discounts of the year on Black Friday," Jesse Toprak, an analyst for Truecar.com, told AOL autos.
A Chevrolet Malibu purchase on Friday could save the buyer an average of 16.6 percent.
Ford is especially predicted to pack the deals, offering a 26 percent discount on the Ford F-150. Ford is especially alluring for those seeking to support an American-based company which has not declared bankruptcy.
Lease promotions are also partaking in the Black Friday revelry. The Honda Civic advertises a $5-a-day promotion deal, meaning $149 a month for 30 months.
With some stores such as Best Buy and Target opening at midnight this Black Friday, automobile dealerships are also upping their competitive ante. Last year, the Garden State Honda in Clifton, N.J., offered a free iPad giveaway with every new car purchase.
"It's a retail weekend, and consumers really associate Black Friday with one-time-only, good deals," Tammy Darvish, vice president of DARCARS Automotive Group in Maryland, told Automotive News website.
