Boardwalk Empire Season 2 Premiere Sparks Fan Excitement
The second season of HBO’s hit Emmy-award winning series “Boardwalk Empire” premieres Sunday.
“Outlaws became kings,” the show’s description reads of the Prohibition era drama. The Martin Scorsese-directed series is written and produced by Emmy Award winner Terence Winter, and features actors such as Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt.
The first season was met with critical acclaim for its visual style and historical accuracy, and lead actor Buscemi received an Emmy for his role as historical bootlegging kingpin Enoch “Nucky” Thompson on the series.
The second season of the show was renewed immediately after the series debut, and its success is predicted to continue.
The show has a widespread fan base, and comedian in New York City Eben Wheeler spoke to The Christian Post about why the show is so successful.
“To start out, the cinematography is great,” explained Wheeler. “Then, the characters are so complex and unpredictable, the story grips you.”
“Boardwalk Empire” follows “Nucky” Johnson, and is based on the book by Nelson Johnson, “Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City.”
“One of my favorite parts about [Boardwalk Empire] is that it takes place in [Atlantic City],” Wheeler continued. “I’ve been there, and it’s cool to see what it must have looked like back then.”
Many viewers have taken to Twitter to express their excitement for the second season.
Twitter user Josh wrote, “My day just got 50 percent better when I was reminded that Boardwalk Empire returns Sunday night.”
“Boardwalk Empire is brilliant. Everyone should watch it… well unless you’re under 12 or a recovering alcoholic,” wrote Arun.
Laurien wrote, “Boardwalk Empire marathon to prepare for the new season!”
About the show’s season premiere, Kimberly simply wrote, “PUMPED.”
New episodes of “Boardwalk Empire” air Sundays on HBO at 9 p.m. EST.
