Jon Bon Jovi Birthday Puts Rocker Across Half a Century Mark

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi joined a slew of other rock and roll veterans who have lived for over half a century as he celebrates his 50th birthday today.

The singer/actor famous for hits such as "Living on a Prayer," "Bad Medicine," and "Blaze of Glory" has truly reached the status of elder rocker and joins the likes of Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osborne and Steven Tyler.

Bon Jovi was born John Francis Bonjiovi, Jr. in New Jersey in 1962. He is most famous for being the front man of Bon Jovi, the band named after him who entered the rock scene officially in 1984 with the release of their self titled debut album "Bon Jovi."

Since the band's debut, they have put out 11 albums and were inducted into the U.K. Music Hall of Fame. Bon Jovi was also nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, but did not make it.

Aside from heading an extremely successful band, Jon Bon Jovi has also tried his hand at acting taking roles in films such as "Pay it Forward" which also starred Helen Hunt, "The Leading Man," and most recently appeared in the romance film "New Year's Eve" that included an all star cast.

He is also a humanitarian as the rocker made a $1 million donation to build homes in Louisiana just one year after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the homes of so many in New Orleans.

He also received an honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Monmouth University in New Jersey in 2001.

President Barack Obama appointed Bon Jovi to the new White House Council for Community solutions in Dec. 2010. His job will be to oversee the enlistment of leaders in the non-profit, private, and philanthropic sectors to make progress on key policy goals.
