Britney Spears in 'X Factor' Rejection for Las Vegas Stage?
For the past several weeks rumors have been swirling about Britney Spears joining the team of judges for the upcoming season of "The X Factor," but it looks like Spears has her eyes set on a Vegas stage.
According to reports Spears has opted not to sign a $10 million deal for the next season of "The X Factor," as reported by TheWrap.
According to a knowledgeable source close to Spears the rumors of the past week relating to the $10 million deal have expired and the singer has her sights set on the Las Vegas strip.
The source told the TheWrap that the singer rejected the opportunity to sit next to Simon Cowell and instead is considering becoming a mainstay at a Las Vegas hotel later this year.
This puts FOX in a desperate situation. The need to land big name entertainers to judge talent shows is a must in order to draw in larger audiences.
This is made all the more urgent given that NBC has a hit show of its own in "The Voice" and both programs will be competing with each other in the fall.
NBC landed a big name entertainer in Christina Aguilera when the network paid near $10 million to have her come back and judge the new season of "The Voice."
The price for those big names has also dramatically risen with the growing popularity of these types of shows.
"American Idol" judge Paula Abdul was only paid $2.5 million during the last season, according to source who wanted to remain anonymous.
"The X Factor" is currently recording auditions, but the judges will not be needed until the end of May.
Fox needs a big name before that date to present to potential advertisers at its sales presentation on May 14.
