Britney Spears: 'Sex Goes Into What I Do,' Singer Pressured to Be Sexy?
Britney Spears hinted that she feels obligated as an artist to wear sexualized clothes such as those found in her latest music video for "Work B----."
Although the singer's past music videos such as "I'm A Slave 4 U" featured similar elements and sexualized themes, Spears said today that she is less comfortable with that imagery.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, the 32-year-old mother-of-two gave a radio interview with "The TJ Show" on Boston's 103.3 when she discussed the pressures found in the music industry.
"Oh my God, we showed way more skin and did way more stuff for the video ["Work B----"] than what is actually there," said the pop star. "Like, I cut out like half the video because I am a mother and because, you know, I have children, and it's just hard to play Sexy Mom while you're being a pop star as well … I just have to be true to myself and you know, feel it out when I do stuff. And just let them know."
Then, the singer admitted that her team pushes sexier images in her work. As a result, Spears often longs for the music videos of the past that featured intricate dance routines.
"A lot of sex goes into what I do, you know," Spears explained during the interview. "But sometimes I would like to bring it back to the old days when there was, like, one outfit through the whole video, and you're dancing the whole video, and there's, like, not that much sex stuff going on."
Ultimately, Spears confessed that music videos today do not focus on artists dancing.
"[Dancing] is old school," said Spears. "It's ... keeping it real, and just making it about the dance. I'd love to do a video like that."
Despite voicing the inner conflict about portraying a sexy pop star, Spears recently released promotional photos for her stint at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. The images feature Spears in revealing sequined outfits gazing seductively into the camera.
Nevertheless, the pop music icon will play 52 shows at the Sin City venue starting on Dec. 27. Spears' eighth studio album is also due in stores earlier the same month.
