Call of Duty Ghosts Becomes the Most-Played Multiplayer Game Globally
Call of Duty: Ghosts has become the top selling Xbox One game in North America and is also the most played multiplayer game globally.
VG247 said it was the best selling Xbox One game at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop as Activision confirmed it was also the no. 1 pre-ordered game for the console as well.
Ghosts is also the top selling PS4 game, and the 360 version is he most played online.
"Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. It's the #1 selling title at key retailers and it's also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc to VG247. "As we've said before, we've got the best community of fans in the world, and we're thrilled they're coming with us to the next generation."
Ghosts has already passed one billion multiplayer matches played according to Activision.
"As home to the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community, it is no surprise that the newest entry in the blockbuster franchise has quickly become the most played multiplayer game on both Xbox One and Xbox 360," said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing & Strategy, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft reports ComingSoon.net. "We congratulate our partners at Activision and Infinity Ward, and are proud to continue offering the best and most engaging Call of Duty online experience to our fans globally by launching all Call of Duty: Ghosts map packs first only on Xbox."
Call of Duty: Ghosts received the PS4 day one patch that brought the campaign mode from 720p to 1080p. The game's producer, Activision, made that announcement that only retail versions of the game will have campaign mode in 720p. An Activision spokesperson told Polygon that the 720p was a mistake caused by a "configuration error" in the retail version.
"This has been addressed with a day-one software update. People will be able to download the day-one update when PlayStation 4 launches in their territory and play at native 1080p," the representative said.
The Xbox One's admission of the 720p was made by Mark Rubin of Infinity Ward.
"Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven't had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we're 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we're native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can't wait for next week's launch," he tweeted.
The game was released for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U on Nov. 5, and arrived with the PS4 on Nov. 15 and will come with the Xbox One on Nov. 22.
