Caltech is World's Top Research University, Beating Harvard
A British higher education magazine has ranked California Institute of Technology as the world’s best research university, overtaking Harvard University’s number one spot for the first time.
The prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings surveyed 200 universities based on 13 performance indicators such as research, teaching, and reputation survey.
The survey showed that Caltech beat Harvard largely due to its increase in research funding. The university reported that research funding had increased by 16 percent.
Harvard ranked second, and Stanford ranked third.
Following Caltech and Harvard, other universities in the top ten are listed in the following order: University of Oxford, Princeton University, the University of Cambridge, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, the University of Chicago and UC Berkeley.
According to LA Times, U.S. News & World Report’s annual listing of U.S. Colleges ranked Harvard and Princeton for first, with Caltech tied with MIT, Stanford, the University of Chicago and the University of Pennsylvania for fifth.
