Can we get Ant-Man 2 by 2020?

Marvel admits difficulty squeezing it in as a stand-alone movie

Disney had two hits recently with "Inside Out" and "Ant-Man" collecting $750 million at the global box office. The tiny Marvel superhero "Ant-Man" is also an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he will be appearing in "Captain America: Civil War." With its jam-packed schedule of superhero films rolling out one after the other, can Marvel squeeze in an Ant-Man 2?

Audiences around the world have taken to the tiny Ant-Man and want more of him. The success of "Ant-Man" rests on the solid casting of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man. The older actor delighted fans in his credible role but as of now, Michael Douglas has not been cast for "Ant-Man 2." But there is a possibility that Janet van Dyne is still alive in the "Quantum Realm" and Hank Pym would want to see his wife again. So when "Ant-Man 2" happens, we are sure Michael Douglas will be part of it.

Marvel has an enviable problem on their hands. With so many sub-franchises within their cinematic universe, how can they make room for Ant-Man and other deserving Marvel characters who should have stand-alone movies? Already, Marvel is running into distribution problems because of "Hulk."

Marvel head honcho Keith Feige is trying to squeeze as many movies within the MCU as he can. He spoke with io9 and said that his "'team is at present overwhelmed with trying to figure out whether to squeeze in another sequel or focus on the all-new Phase 3 line-up, which includes Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, the two-part Infinity War, Inhumans, Spider Man and Thor 3."

When asked about Ant-Man, he said, "The answer is I don't really know. We're entering territory that's an incredible problem to have, which is too many franchises to navigate. That's a very very high class problem, and if we're faced with that high class problem, we will try to figure out a solution in a way that allows us to produce the movies in the way we have."

Fans of Ant-Man will have to wait for an official announcement from Marvel but as of now, it is hardly likely that we will see "Ant-Man 2" even by 2020.
