Casey Anthony Investigator Says Case Not Over Yet
Leading investigators in the Casey Anthony trial have spoken to media Tuesday afternoon, and reported that the case is not over yet.
Caylee Anthony's picture was placed next to Jerry Demings, Sheriff of Orange County, as he spoke with reporters about the agency's investigation.
During the conference he explained that the case was not over, and that perjury charges could soon be filed against the toddler’s grandmother, Cindy Anthony. She stands accused of lying on the stand during the murder trial against her daughter Casey.
“We've had discussions with the State Attorney's Office... they will make a determination about [the perjury charges] in the near future,” Demings said.
Reporters questioned investigators about the proposed Caylee's Law, to which Demings responded by saying, “I think it's a wonderful law.”
Caylee's Law will make it a felony to wait more than 24 hours to report a missing child, and a felony not to report the death of a child within one hour.
“No parent should be allowed to not report their child missing under the age of 12 when they know or don't know the whereabouts of their child.” Demings said.
He added: “In this case, it seems somewhat unbelievable that a loving mother or parent would not know where their daughter would be and wouldn't report the child missing.”
Two-year-old Caylee Anthony's skeletal remains were discovered on December 11, 2008, almost five months after she was reported missing by her grandmother, Cindy Anthony.
Mother Casey did not report her daughter missing at all, and was later indicted on charges of first degree murder.
Casey Anthony is set to be released from prison this Sunday, July 17th 2011.
