Celtic vs. Benfica Live Stream: Watch Online Champions League Soccer (Team News)
Celtic vs. Benfica will take place Wednesday in a key Group G Champions League tie. The match kicks off at 2.45 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream (details below).
Celtic has a strong pedigree in Scotland but oftentimes they have been unable to transfer that success onto the European stage. They will be looking to get off to a positive start to their new campaign and starting with a home fixture will be an opportunity to get off to that good start with three points.
However, if they are to get a result the Scottish side will have to do so without Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley. Both midfielders are still out with injuries sustained during their Champions League qualifier match against Helsingborgs. They came through that tricky fixture but it came at a cost with injuries undermining their preparations.
Celtic striker Georgios Samaras, as well as winger Paddy McCourt and midfielder Filip Twardzik also all miss tonight's match through injury.
Benfica are not without problems as well, and they will be without captain Luisao and defender Maxi Pereira through suspension. One of Benfica's key playmakers also misses the tie; Carlos Martins has picked up a thigh injury which keeps him on the sidelines.
Influential captain Luisao was given a massive two month ban recently by FIFA for pushing a referee in a heated exchange that occurred during pre-season. The world football governing body have moved to make an example of the Brazilian center half that referees should not be interfered with at any time.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said: "He is a very important player to Benfica. He is their captain and a very experienced Brazilian international with a lot of class and great leadership qualities.
"If he was to miss the game, that would be a huge bonus for us."
