Celtics' Forward Jeff Green 'Thankful' for Prayers Before Heart Surgery
Boston Celtics Forward Jeff Green is ineligible to play this season due to a heart condition that warrants an operation, but is still practicing with his team and receiving prayers from the NBA.
Last week, the Boston Celtics announced that Green would undergo surgery on Jan 9.
“Jeff Green will undergo surgery on Jan. 9 after an aortic aneurysm was detected in his physical. He will miss the 2011-2012 season," the Celtics’ official Twitter page said.
Although the Celtics were forced to void Green’s $9 million contract this year, coach Doc Rivers said the team is not forgetting about their forward.
“He’s part of the team,’’ Rivers said. “Jeff is, hopefully, going to get a ring, he’ll be there, just like everybody else.
The team’s veteran big man, Kevin Garnett, also wished Green well.
“Jeff’s our brother, man, and we want him around. What he has to go through, none of us has been there,” Garnett told the press. “What he’s going to go through is definitely life-changing. We definitely want him around. It’s good to have him around, to be the younger brother, and we wish him the best.’’
Ronny Turiaf, Washington Wizards’ center, had to also undergo a heart procedure where he said he felt he was able to cheat life. He spoke about reaching out to Green during the delicate time.
“I know what he’s going through right now. Basically, I don’t feel too comfortable, remembering that time in my life,” Turiaf said. “That wasn’t a pleasant time at all. I think after you get close to going upstairs and seeing the great architect, you realize that life is really a good one.”
Green took to his Twitter recently to thank everyone for the prayers and support.
“Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers,” Green tweeted. “Much appreciated love you all..and I'll be back soon stronger and better than ever I promise."
