'Chicago Fire' Season 2 Spoilers: Crossover With 'Chicago PD' Will See Terrorist Attack

"Chicago Fire" fans can look forward to their favorite drama merging with another equally popular television series, "Chicago PD," in a forthcoming crossover episode.

The two NBC dramas will join forces for a two-part storlyine revolving around a terrorist attack on Chicago. "Chicago PD" creator and producer Dick Wolf, who is also behind "Law & Order" and "Chicago Fire," revealed that the idea for the crossover storyline was rooted in the Boston Marathon bombings as well as the Oklahoma City bombings. Filming for the special installments took place at the old Sears Tower building in Homan Square as well as at the Cinespace Film Studios, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Meanwhile, "Chicago PD" actress Sophia Bush said that the comparisons of the show to "Law & Order" are "a great compliment to us." The actress also discussed the crossover episodes with "Chicago Fire."

"I think it's such a rare occurence in TV to do something like this- especially because our shows are so intertwined," Bush told The Tribune. "But I think when you're examining public service, it makes a lot of sense."

The crossover episodes are slated to begin on April 28 and will take place during the regular time slots for both "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago PD."

"Chicago Fire" airs on NBC on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST. This week's installment is entitled "Rhymes With Shout." The synopsis is as follows: "Cruz and his brother, Leon, must come to terms with their pasts after learning about a drive-by shooting in their neighborhood. Meanwhile, the fight between McLeod and Chief Boden intensifies; Isabella persuades Mills to gussy up for a gala; Casey deals with the fact that Dawson won't be around as much anymore; Shay reaches the end of her rope; and Zoya addresses her visa expiration date."
