Church of Scientology Slams Leah Remini, Calls Report 'Unfounded' as Shelly Miscavige Meets With LAPD
The LAPD has reportedly closed the case filed by Leah Remini, who told police that she was worried about her friend, Shelly Miscavige. The LAPD investigated but hours later met with Miscavige and called the investigation "unfounded."
Remini filed the report with the LAPD and allegedly told them she was concerned about Miscavige who has not been seen in some time. The LAPD opened an investigation but was able to meet with Miscavige and determine that she was alive and well, though officials did not reveal where they had met her or how the meeting came about.
The Church of Scientology issued a strong statement condemning the investigation and the actions taken by Remini, who left the church last month.
"This is just harassment," a representative for the Church of Scientology told E! News. "It is a publicity stunt cooked up by a small band of unemployed fanatics who live on the fringe of the Internet. The Church and the attorney for Ms. Miscavige have already responded to this ludicrous claim."
"This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day. Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas," another statement issued to Daily Mail read.
Remini made no secret of the fact that she was concerned about Miscavige's whereabouts. The two were friends when Remini still belonged to the church, but, citing several reasons, Remini decided to break from the church and speak about her concerns regarding the institution.
She recently announced that she would be writing a memoir that will include "everything that's taboo to talk about." The book will include her experiences within the Church of Scientology, Remini told Us Weekly.
