Ciara Reveals How She Prayed for Russell Wilson Before They Dated
R&B star Ciara Harris reveals that she was praying for a God-fearing man before Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson stepped into her life and said God told him to lead her spiritually.
"I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me," the 30-year-old singer recalled as the May covergirl of Essence Magazine. "I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all."
Just last month, Wilson, a devout Christian, proposed to his girlfriend, Ciara, of one year. For months, the pair dated very publicly and shared their faith journey.
Ciara is a single mother to an almost 2-year-old son named Future Zahir Wilburn with her former fiancé, rapper Future.
"That wasn't necessarily part of my vision," she said of being a single parent. "But the moment I realized I was going to be a single mother, I had to reflect and reorganize my thoughts. I decided to trust that God had a plan for me, and move forward one day at a time."
When announcing their engagement on social media last month, Ciara glorified God for 27-year-old Wilson, who she believes is heaven sent.
"I feel complete. God Is Good," Ciara previously tweeted. "Grateful For You @DangRussWilson. You Are Heaven Sent. I'm Looking Forward To Spending Forever With You."
When they initially began dating last year, the entertainer and athlete spoke about taking a vow of celibacy until marriage. During a public conversation at The Rock Church. in San Diego, California last July, Wilson revealed that he and Ciara would not be having sex before marriage after the athlete had a conversation with God. Since they began dating last April, Ciara says the decision not to engage in sex with each other has helped foster a growth within the union.
"He's such an awesome guy and the cool thing is that every day, we're growing with each other. We get to have really healthy conversations and focus on each other as people," she told Cosmopolitan magazine last month. "That is very important to me and him. It's very valuable."
Prior to their engagement, Harris said God is in control of her relationship with Wilson, so she's not worried about where their relationship is headed.
"I feel very confident in the love that we have for each other, and only God knows where it's going to go," she previously told Page Six. "God knows everything that's to come in the future, and I think it's best to let Him keep taking control of things. Life is sweet, and I'm very thankful for all the great things happening in my life. I'm very happy."
