Ciara Shares Bishop TD Jakes Sermon on Destiny and Discouragement
R&B singer Ciara Harris shared an inspirational message from Bishop T.D. Jakes this past week about people close to you discouraging you from reaching your destiny.
Ciara, 30, took to Twitter where she shared a link of Bishop Jakes' sermon that she called "So Good."
In the sermon titled "The Battle Is Not Yours," the senior pastor of The Potter's House in Dallas, Texas, spoke about people speaking negatively against the destiny of others.
"Every time you get ready to do something great there's always somebody who reminds you of your place…who are you to go after that, who are you to build a house, who are you to write a book, who are you," Jakes preaches in the video shared on his own Instagram. " I could've took the insult if it came from the giant, but this comes from the same brother that I came to bring love. How could you eat my lunch and talk against my destiny?"
The sermon clip is accompanied by a caption that states, "Have you ever had someone attached to your history discourage you from your Destiny?"
Since she began dating devout Christian Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson last year, Ciara has been more vocal about sharing elements of her own faith.
As the May covergirl of Essence magazine, Ciara revealed that she prayed for God to send her a man like Wilson before they began dating.
"I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me," the 30-year-old singer recalled as the May covergirl of Essence Magazine. "I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all."
After close to one year of dating and sharing private parts of their journey with the world, both the 30-year-old singer and 27-year-old Christian athlete announced their engagement on social media last March.
"I feel complete. God Is Good," Ciara tweeted Friday. "Grateful For You @DangRussWilson. You Are Heaven Sent. I'm Looking Forward To Spending Forever With You."
When they initially began dating last year, the entertainer and athlete spoke about taking a vow of celibacy until marriage. During a public conversation at The Rock Church.in San Diego, California. Wilson revealed that he and Ciara would not be having sex before marriage after the athlete had a conversation with God.
The athlete described how he presented the idea to his girlfriend.
"I asked her 'what would you do if we took all that other stuff off the table and did it Jesus' way, no sex?" Wilson asked the singer. "I knew God had brought me into her life to bless her and for her to bless me and to bless so many people with the impact that she has and I have. We're not going to be perfect, by any means."
However Wilson said he believes God anointed him and Ciara.
"He's anointed both of us and He's calling for us to do something special," the quarterback said.
