Conan O'Brien to Controversially Officiate Gay Marriage on Show
Conan O'Brien will officiate a gay marriage on his show this week as it moves to New York to celebrate its one-year anniversary on TBS.
Many have accused the event as a ploy for ratings, but the couple is for real. O'Brien will marry a member of his staff and his partner on the program, according a Vulture report.
This week's shows will be taped at New York's Beacon Theater. The show's producers haven't announced what day the ceremony will take place.

This won't be the first marriage to take place on a late night talk show. In 1969, musician Tiny Tim married Miss Vicki Budinger on Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show." The show broke ratings records while bringing in over 21 million viewers.
The move to New York is part of the celebration for the show's one-year anniversary on TBS. O'Brien's show was broadcast on NBC from 1993 to 2010 after he was paid to leave the network over a scheduling conflict.
The marriage wouldn't have been possible on O'Brien's previous show shot in New York. The state controversially legalized gay marriage when Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Marriage Equality Act into law this past summer. The change in law brought a wave of protests from Christian conservative groups that believe homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God.
