Cory Monteith and James Gandolfini's to Be Remembered During Emmys
The annual Emmy Awards always includes an 'In Memoriam' tribute to those who were lost during the past year. However, this year's ceremony will include an extended tribute to high-profile entertainers who were lost this past year, including Cory Monteith, James Gandolfini, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters and Gary David Goldberg.
Each star will have a co-worker deliver a tribute to them, Variety reported. Jane Lynch, who co-starred with Cory Monteith on "Glee," will pay tribute to him. "The Sopranos" co-star Edie Falco will speak about James Gandolfini. Rob Reiner, who starred along side Jean Stapleton will pay tribute to that actor. And Robin Williams will honor Jonathan Winters. The two worked together on "Mork and Mindy." Michael J. Fox will honor Gary David Goldberg.
The Emmys executive producer Ken Erlich spoke about the special "In Memoriam" segment.

"The In Memoriam is a very emotional and evocative segment for the Emmys, or any annual awards program," the executive producer explained. "These five individuals brought us such great entertainment and joy, so having their close friends share personal remembrances is something that will be very meaningful for television audiences across the country and across the generations. And, our traditional In Memoriam segment will be presented in a unique new format that will give added importance to an already much anticipated segment of the Emmy show."
This sort of special tribute is not unprecedented. Last year, actor Andy Griffith received a special memorial during the Emmys broadcast.
The Emmy Awards Ceremony is set to air on Sept. 22 on CBS.
