Demi Lovato Leaving 'X Factor' to Fully Pursue Music Career

Demi Lovato is officially leaving "The X Factor" in order to pursue her own goals and professional career in the music industry. Series creator Simon Cowell confirmed Lovato's absence and wished her the best.

"I always knew she wasn't coming back because she's touring, so I knew that," Cowell said in a statement.

"I started the show being a singer and a musician, so I'm going to go back to that," Lovato told reporters. "It's been really great, but I'm so excited for 2014. I'm going to dedicate it completely and entirely to music – touring and making a new album – possibly releasing one."

In addition to her duties for "The X Factor," Lovato has appeared on several episodes of "Glee" but will also put that aside in order to launch her Neon Lights tour and promote her latest album, "Demi." The tour kicks off on Feb. 9 and runs through the end of March.

"I think ultimately my main thing is singing," Lovato told People magazine in November. "Maybe movies once in a while, if the right role comes along. I will take the month of January completely off! I want to vacation! I want to watch crime shows on my DVR on my couch … I need to do some exercising and I don't really have time to do it. I love horseback riding and never get to do that stuff, but January is my time to do all of that."

Lovato is working on a book to follow up her popular devotional, "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year." She chose to come clean about her struggle with drugs, alcohol, and an eating disorder in order to help inspire others to do the same and seek help.

"When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over," she told Entertainment Weekly, "but when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever."
