Denise Richards Refuses Extra Child Support From Charlie Sheen
Denise Richards took in ex-husband Charlie Sheen's twins when the twins' mother, Brooke Mueller, entered the Betty Ford Center. She was awarded temporary guardianship, and Sheen offered to pay her extra child support while she takes care of the twins; Richards refused and said that she had enough to take care of them.
"Charlie is extremely generous, and wanted to make sure having the twins in Denise's care didn't place a financial strain on her. Denise was thankful for the offer, but declined because she has the financial means to take care of them herself. She isn't doing this for the money," a friend told Radar Online.
"There have been many times over the last year that Charlie has said the best thing he ever did was marrying and having children with Denise, but the worst thing was ever letting her go. Denise is the one person in his life that he truly trusts," the source added.
Richards and Sheen went to court last week to settle the custody issue, and, with Sheen's full support, Richards was awarded custody. The court will continue to monitor the situation and, once Mueller is out of rehab, may decide to let Richards keep the children while she gets settled.
However, Mueller may not be completely happy with the situation. She apparently asked the judge to give custody of the twins to her brother, fearing that she would not receive the financial support from Sheen.
"One of the reasons she had her lawyer go to court on Friday to ask the judge to strip Denise Richards of temporary guardianship of Bob and Max – and have them placed with her brother – is because she is afraid that Charlie is going to cut off child support," a source revealed. "Brooke hasn't worked in years and is unable to keep a job because of her addiction to drugs."
"Greatest ex @charliesheen my mom's day gift flying me home on his plane so I can take the kids to school," Richards tweeted.
She had been busy filming for her new series "Twisted" in New York City and didn't get the chance to spend the day with the kids. Sheen, it appears, flew her home late last night so she could be there when they woke up this morning.
