'Destiny 2' Tops List of Best-Selling Games in the US for September

After delaying their latest report on the best-selling games in the United States, the NPD Group has finally released the list of the top video games for the month of September.

"Destiny 2" found itself on top of the heap on the all-platforms chart, becoming the best-selling video game from the previous month. VG247 reported that Bungie's multiplayer first-person shooter video game zoomed on top of the sales charts with less than a full month since it was released back on Sept. 6.

The game took the top spot from "Ghost Recon: Wildlands," which was the erstwhile leader for six months. Moreover, "Destiny 2" has managed to climb up the third spot among the best-selling games over the last 12 months. The two games above were "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" and "Battlefield 1" at the first and second spots, respectively.

In addition, the NPD Group also noted that "Destiny 2's" total revenue for its first month was bigger than "Destiny 1's." The revenue included both the physical and digital sales, Gamespot reported. Trailing "Destiny 2" in the U.S. charts are "NBA 2K18" and "Madden NFL 18" at the second and third spots, respectively.

Finishing at number four is "FIFA 18" followed by "Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle" at fifth, "Marvel vs Capcom Infinite" at sixth, and "Grand Theft Auto V" at seventh. Rounding out the top 10 are "NHL 18," "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Rainbow Six Siege" at the eighth, ninth, and 10th places, respectively.

As for the hardware side, the Nintendo Switch lorded over the sales charts for September. Nintendo's flagship console bested stiff competition coming from Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. NPD's report officially confirmed Nintendo's announcement from last week that the Switch was the best-selling console last month.

"Nintendo Switch has already surpassed 2 million units sold in the U.S. alone, and has yet to go through its first holiday shopping season," said Nintendo in a press release last week.
