A Detroit barbershop shooting has left three dead and several wounded on Wednesday evening.

The incident happened at Al's Barber shop located on the east side of the city. A man dressed in body armor was arrested by police and taken in for questioning in relation to the shooting. He is currently being held at Oakland County's Sheriff's Department.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said, "Police wear body armor. Why would a community member be driving around in body armor?"

Police have not released the identity of the suspect but the man is said to be a convicted felon.

Craig said the backroom of Al's Barber Shop was being used for gambling by 20-30 people. The shooter started opening fire through an open door, with one reportedly firing back.

"This was a violent act - basically what I'm calling urban terrorism," he said. "We had a suspect with a high-power rifle shoot through an open door."

Craig continued, "Officers were able to develop information that there was an ongoing feud between a particular individual and several members of the gambling party."

Police believe the motive for the shooting could be because of gambling related to the shop or debt owed to the shooter.

A witness told Detroit News: "Someone owed someone petty money, but I don't know why they had to shoot everyone."
