Diddy on American Idol? Sean P. Diddy Combs Being Touted as New Judge

Sean P. Diddy Combs could be a new American Idol judge, according to new reports.

American Idol producers at Fox have allegedly contacted Diddy to commence talks about a spot on the show, the New York Post has claimed.

The Bad Boy Records founder would be a new addition to the drastically revamped judging panel on the reality TV singing competition. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who were both judges in the last season of American Idol, both announced that they were stepping down as judges for the coming season.

Those announcements have sparked wild rumors about who will be lined up to judge the popular program for the upcoming season.

It is believed that American Idol producers at Fox have been dissatisfied with the continued downward trend in the show's ratings which have gone on for a number of seasons now. They allegedly were looking to freshen things up by changing much of the judging panel in the hope of attracting back past viewers as well as a new audience.

Some have argued that American Idol's biggest loss was that os Simon Cowell, with many claiming his often strong comments targeted at contestants made the show what it is today. Cowell's blunt feedback was often criticized in some quarters as being too harsh, but praised by many for being spot on and just telling it like it is. Cowell left American Idol to concentrate on his own X-Factor singing show, which has been hugely popular in his native British audience for a number of years. He has brought the X-Factor to America, and although the first season did well, it perhaps did not hit the heights that Cowell was initially hoping for. He too is looking to revamp much of his show for the next season of the X-Factor.

Diddy meanwhile, is not new to Idol, and he has previously appeared on the show in a mentoring role for finalists. He has also performed on the show, giving a hugely popular appearance in March 2011.
