'Doctor Who' News: 'The Time of The Doctor' Christmas Special Air Time and Spoilers
Popular BBC hit "Doctor Who" is planning a Christmas special that many fans are very excited for. The holiday special will say goodbye to current doctor Matt Smith, and welcome new doctor Peter Capaldi. The special is called "The Time of the Doctor."
It will air on Chirstmas day, on BBC America at 9 p.m. The show has released an official description of "The Time of the Doctor."
"Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe," the description reads.
This Christmas special will be current doctor Matt Smith's final episode with the show. The actress who plays Clara, Jean Coleman, commented about how emotional Smith's last scenes were.
"I knew it was going to be sad, but it was really traumatic. It was very emotional and overwhelming," Coleman told Digital Spy.
Peter Capaldi will debut as the new doctor in this episode. At a recent BAFTA event BBC Controller Charlotte Moore discussed Peter Capaldi and his upcoming performance as the twelfth doctor.
"[Capaldi is] going to be a really fantastic Doctor," Moore told The Mirror. "He's an extraordinary actor with amazing ability and just watching the first scenes come through … I'm very excited."
