Emmy Award Winners 2011: Kate Winslet and Downton Abbey Scoop Awards
British born actress Kate Winslet and Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes both scooped prizes in this year’s Emmy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The two marked a night of great performances staged by British actors in the annual award ceremony held in Los Angeles Nokia Theatre.
Winslet won an award for her role as Mildred Pierce where she acted as a mother in the Great Depression.
The five part mini-series documentary which she won the award for was filmed immediately after she broke up with her lover Sam Mendes.
Guy Pearce who is a co-star also won the award of the outstanding supporting actor in mini-series or movie.
Known for her emotional speeches 35-year-old Winslet was emotionally moved by the win and heaped praise on her own mother saying she was instrumental in the win. She testified that her mother would forever remain important to her.
She said: “Mildred Pierce was capable of great acts of love as a mother. It doesn't matter how old you are or what you do with your life, you will never stop needing your mum. And I will never stop needing mine, so thanks mum.”
